80s TV Shows: B is for Bosoms and Buddies

Bosom Buddies
1980-1982

That's right younglings, before Tom Hanks wore a space suit or a military uniform or a tux to the Oscars, he wore a wig and a dress...and called himself Buffy so he and his roommate could take advantage of cheap rent at the Susan B. Anthony residence for women.

Quotes:
"She certainly gives credence to those rumors Eva Braun made it out."

 Trivia:
The series was short-lived (and rightly so) but when Tom Hanks started attracting attention for his role in a popular 1984 movie, ABC bought the rights to Bosom Buddies and re-aired select episodes.  Know what that movie was?

I remember seeing this at one point, but I was young so I didn't understand it. I'll have to look into it again.

And I'm guessing the movie was Splash? That was around that time I think.

Love Tom Hanks. Good choice for B, I like some of the more obscure stuff. :)

Oh, yes, I remember Bosom Buddies, and it was hilarious. I also remember that the young man who played Tom Hanks buddy,( Peter Scolari) showed up later in The last Bob Newhart series where Newhart was an Inn keeper.

Thanks for following avgolemono. Don't worry about tempering, by slowly adding hot liquids to the eggs, they don't curdle; then you can add the whole nine yards and it's no problem.

I'd never heard of the series, so I clicked the picture, expecting a Monty Python sketch. It so wasn't. :)

I loved this show. I used to watch reruns in college with my bestie.

SOOOO funny, I watched in re-runs years later. But I agree with Liz... I think the movie was SPLASH.

FUN POST, NICKI. Have a great weekend.

I can honestly say I've never seen the show...but the idea of Tom Hanks in a dress makes me giggle, as does the picture proof of it. :-P

And I love how your comment asks me, "What's happenin', hot stuff?" Love Sixteen Candles. ;-)

I remember this one. And it's the main reason I've never been able to watch Tom Hanks in much else since. Where's the dress?
I loved this show when I was a kid. And Billy Joel was big when he did the theme song.

1984? Um... Big? Sorry, it was a little before my time. But I think that was the first Tom Hanks movie I ever saw, so I'm going to go with Big.

Huh, never heard of this series... though from the description it sounds a *little* bit like Three's Company, save there the guy was posing as a homosexual instead of a gal. ;p

Have a good day, and God bless.

Wow! I totally forgot about that show! It WAS a little before my time, but I caught it in syndication when I was a wee lad.

Was the movie "Bachelor Party"?

I am sighing in such pity for those who say 1984 was ahead of their time...missed the best decade evah!

Hm, methinks Tom Hanks's dress here is strikingly similar to Kate Middleton's when she and Prince William announced their engagement. I think she drew direct inspiration from this.

Never heard of this..so different from the movie roles he enacted in later years....but then my viewing of American sitcom is limited to what we can access here....nice post and great idea...loved your Take on The HP blogfest...visiting from A-Z. Good luck and have fun with your shows. :)

I loved this show. I will say Big. But it was probably Splash. They both came out around the same time.
